lyrics

Born in 48 to a true to life travesty
His father was abusive,
used to beat his ass constantly
He took it as long as he could stand it
as the youngest of 3
When he became a man he left
trying to find him some peace
Instead he put the country on his back
became a marine
Enlisted the tet offensive
witnessed death and disease
To find peace became his passion
but true loves what he seeks
Found his soul mate with the first kiss,
now a family he dreams
He's married in 71'
but tragedy creeps
lost his mother to bone cancer
getting harder to breath
It's a lot to comprehend
and it keeps getting bigger
two months later his father
takes his own life with a trigger

You were always, always, always,
Always, always, always at war
Now you finally found peace
(Repeat)

Life comes at you fast and passes you by
The world is unfair and justice is blind
Each day brings a battle fight grit your teeth
You were always at war, you finally found peace

With both his parents gone
he began to feel all alone
started to lose sight of his life
and making a home
No amount of drinking or drugs
could numb the pain
the only thing left of his family
was his wife and a name
To forget about the past
they decided to move west
His wife gave birth
He was made whole at last
As he welcomed his son
into this world he made him a promise
He would never be like his father
Or raise him with malice
He would love he and his mother
Unconditional and
He would teach his son about life
And be a true friend
And at his last breathe
He's unafraid of the end
He succeeded by keeping his word to his wife and their kid

He's was always at war finally found peace
With peace he left his family with only their grief
Never to see his smile or hear his voice again
Never to smoke a joint or drink a beer with their best friend
But all was not lost with this tragedy happening
Friends and family grew close and smiles came back again
talking about his stories and the good times they had
His son started to learn so much more about his dad
He was a man full of strength, honor and courage
He fought his battles head on
Wouldn't let nothing deter him
He taught us all something in his own special way
So for John C Nelson we all say fu**ing A
